Is God a reality or a concept ? - About 5 minutes reading
Is God a
Reality or a Concept ?
Day in and day out. All over the
world , wherever there is human race , there is God , in one or the other form
and way. Now that I am an Indian Hindu , most of my illustrations or
presentations will be based on my way of following and adopting God but I strongly
believe and a bit of few minutes ponder over other ways in other communities ,
one may find same or almost similar systems and practices (in broad overall context) everywhere.
OH My God ! What a wonderful view !
Today , only God saved me. The truck
was going to hit me directly.
Oh God , please take this off from
us. Only You can do this……..
I do not believe I will be getting
top grade. It was all His (God) blessings !!!!
Like this , so many times in our
lives , we express ourselves in this way on day to day. It is a part of our natural expression when we are struck by
various types of happenings around or
within ourselves. A quick review will show that all such happenings and their
intense impact on our mind is not pre-envisaged.
Now who is this God we remember and refer to
so frequently ? To understand this , it may be more appropriate to understand
first human nature and influence of several
factors , external and internal , on human psyche. Once this is
understood , our realization on God will become self clear.
Human-beings on this planets are
perhaps, the most powerful in terms of
brain functions in understanding various systems with principles governing
them. From the formation and working of Universal systems to a small household
good , human mind has been able to understand millions of systems , their
existence and utilization. But is everything absolute ? Are we able to
understand and explain everything ? With so much development in science and
technology , we are able to find perhaps the smallest particle and named it
‘God Particle’. But there comes the limit of brain. How this particle is formed
? Not able to explain this , we called it ‘God Particle’. Only recently , I
faced such un-explainable situation in my own house. My elder grad- daughter ,
six year old , told her four year old sister that this planet earth has been
created by God. And the question raised by younger one was-How? Obviously ,
none of us could reply.
So
the brain has limitation. The more complex and fine situation is , the
less is the or no explanation. The extent of ignorance and therefore limitation
on understanding of a very large number of systems vary from person to person.
I , in my experience as Petroleum Engineer, may be understanding Petroleum
systems well but may be zero in Medical Sciences. So whatever is not explained , it is left to God to conclude the
issue. Sahir, my most favorite poet explained this approach (though in a different context) :
“Woh afsanaj Jise anjam tak lana na
ho mumkin,
Use ek khoobsoorat mod they kar chodna acha’
( if it is not possible to conclude
a story , better give it good twist and leave it there) .
So by this explanation , God is a
concept which is used to explain the systems which we , the human-beings
realize but can not explain.
I am sure many people will not
agree with me if I leave my blog here. What about God – A Reality ? To go ahead
on this , let us revise my expression on human psyche in various scenarios as
given above. Brain’s capability to understand many systems and issues vary from
person to person. Also brains response to absorb, adopt and respond to a
problem also vary not only from person to person but also from time to time and
also depends on the severity of the problem. A soldier may not be afraid of
firing bullets but certainly not a normal man. One person is able to absorb big
financial losses and move ahead with cool mind further to correct the
situation. Other may commit suicide even.
A system which is posing threat to human society at large like brutal
actions of cruel king, terrorism ,
environment degrading , natural disasters etc. also create fear in the general
human-being and all look to a solution for relief. So the severity of the situation in terms of
risks, its time or probability of
occurrence also impact behavior of human beings.
In such a situation , any person
with some extra-ordinary qualities of leadership in system development and its
effective implementation to correct the odd situations and provide relief and
confidence in normal human beings, individual or society is treated as Saviour
or God. In Hindu scriptures , many such
Gods and Goddesses have been described. A read about each of them will clearly
show you their extraordinary power and intelligence to manage and control some
situations which were causing large destructions to society or even to
individual one. For normal persons , these situations were surely going to
destroy their existence or going to give them huge amount of sufferings. Just
think , when you or some one your loved
suffer , say due to heart attack, the doctor who treat and successfully
restore life is treated as ‘God Sent’ or
‘God’ himself.
So God by this discussion is a
Reality also.
One thing that appear from total is
that we the human-beings define and nominate God. We do it to have , as we
believe , a very strong anchor to support our life in a balanced normal way.
Again quoting Sahir (in his famous qawwali in Bollywood Hindi movie- Barasat Ki
Raat) :
Khak ko buut or buut ko devta karta
hai
Inteha hai ke bande ko khuda karta
hai ye Ishq
( we make an idol from the clay and
call it our God, the other extreme is that we call a person as our God- all this is because of our deep faith and
love for him/her)
Sahir in these four lines has
described very beautifully that God may be a Concept or a Reality – both. All
depends on our faith in His powers for running the systems smoothly and to the
welfare of all.

It’s a riddle ,god is your own imagination & full of power & mystery
ReplyDeleteWithout faith ,human is not human
Excellent Article , It reads :
ReplyDelete“All depends on our faith in His powers for running the systems smoothly and to the welfare of all.”
Thus, I believe that there is a super power who is controlling His Massenger with in us. Our Geeta Gyan also says / discuss about Super Power and Atma( Massenger of God).
Thus, according to me Super Power ( that is God) is a reality.
Nice description of faith which tends to define God, we may loose faith in the absence of God.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article Papa... The name of God sometimes gives us strength to face the unexpected and impossible...
ReplyDeleteGod, to me, is not a " Vyakti" but a " Shakti". The more we know about God, the more we realize , how little we know ....
ReplyDeleteAnd certainly, " Jin prem kiyo, tin hi Prabh paayoh"...
Contd.......
ReplyDeleteBansal ji, your quotes from Sahir are apt. He hits the nail on the head, each time .
Jolly
Well written Naveen. Yes, the riddle/ mystery whether God exists or not shall always remain a part of lives as ling as we are alive. In my opinion, there must a 'Super Power' that runs and operates this universe as we take birth, perform activities and perish and may be adopt another 'चोला'. Let the mystery remain and we continue to debate. One must enjoy and do not bother to understand the fact (which I doubt we get an answer in this life of ours.) Amen 🙏
