Is it the last one to happen or may be.....?
On April 11 , 2024 while the country was holidaying because of Eid festival , a school in south Haryana was operating.School children from nearby places were being ferried around noon time in a school bus which the the locals saw being driven rashly and zig zag manner. As per media report , they intervened and stopped the bus but school Principal intervened and assured corrective actions.
Soon after , the bus met with an accident and six student died and many injured. After , this a plethora of actions started. Driver and School authorities were arrested . Media report state that driver was Drunk. Bus had no attendant, was not carrying proper fitness certificate, school was operating of a Holiday, bus had previous records of rules violation etc. etc. etc. ........
All from the top to any level in the country conveyed their condolences for lost lives. Any one can feel the extreme sad feelings and status of the families of deceased. for injured also , how the future will shape , is a matter of time , may be life long.
Rules and SOPs for school transportation are well defined in India to ensure safe and quality services for students. In spite of that such incident which are beyond the definition of 'Horrible' , happen. This is where administrative system has drooped to assume even in-human shape. In this case also , some actions here and there for sometime and fixing responsibilities of a few local authorities will be done and once again , all will go back to original (note ... 'Original' means same in-human system)
Soon after Gurugram District Authorities took immediate inspection of about 2100 school buses and fined / impound more than 600 buses say about 1/3 of the school bus fleet. Now imagine how about 1800 students will go to school and what arrangements at what cost and also safety , their parents may be making for a month or so. We do not see the problem / issue even when it has acquired elephantine dimensions. Also , this is the only a mini sample not even representing the mass of entire nation.
All these rule flouting must not be sudden but for months to-gether. Any one can only guess , if possible , how much transactions might have crossed hands and to what level for turning away the eyes. Now suddenly , those who turned their eyes till date have assumed the roles of 'Rulers of the Law' and fined those from whose exchanges they flourished so far. And we are made to believe that they will not repeat the past again , never !
The most sad part is that the society had to sacrifice six among rising future generation for authorities to see , at least for now , and show some concerned actions . How many more will be required to make the system realise the value of human life ?
I find myself in a very difficult position to take a view on the future specially in reference to this incident and actions taken. We see such scenes in Delhi as well. No options but to continue with Life....
Money rules the roost . Why don't school authorities take action against the defaulters and ensure safety and implementation of the rules? Parents entrust their precious children to these unscrupulous people only to suffer consequences.
